Let's start
with your list
of things not to do---
Forget the music.
Unless you’re with a band or iTunes, people are not coming
to your website to hear music. If you must play something, make sure
that there is a volume control and an OFF button.
Forget the ads.
Unless they are really necessary for your business. People did
not come to your site to be sold something else. Hopefully people
came here to use your site, and maybe do a little business with you.
Forget the blinking and rotating glitz.
Unless you want your visitors to be distracted. Aren’t they
here to get some info about your company? Use the unusual sparingly
and for a specific purpose.
Forget the fancy fonts and wild colors.
Sure it’s pretty, but can the visitor find what they
need? Black backgrounds are cool on a music website, but just don't
work when you use a lot of text.
Forget the bells and whistles.
Don’t be talked into spending a fortune on new technology
that will be costly and hard to edit. Stick with what works, clients
will trust your website and therefore you if your site shows a solid face to
the world.
